Dream This!

August 29th, 2007 by Blondel

Man..   We killed this site fast.

I’m not much of a sneaker head, but I must admit, I do have a penchant for old school skate shoes…  typically of the Vans variety.  Maybe that is why last night I had a dream I was in a sneaker shop trying on a pair of Vans Half Cabs.   I decided to buy a pair.  I went with an olive colorway.

However, when I got home and opened the shoe box, there were 7 shoes in the box, all fitted for the left foot.  Sizes ranged  from 9 to 12.5  and the shoe was this weird hybrid between the Half Cab and the Nike Air Force One.   My first thought upon seeing this mess was, “what kind of shoe-sales-person would let a box like this go out the door?”

A couple of us had some written words in fine little print zine called Hatch.  I have no idea where you would find a copy, I think they have a website somewhere around these internets.

Believe it or don’t believe it, there are ideas in motion.  Expect some real effort in early ‘08.

You Decide

Is it bad to launch a site and then forget about it entirely for weeks?

mysterious missing messengers

July 24th, 2007 by Rob Rochford

so alliteration is great for titles, but what about main bodies of work?
well, it looks like the creative juices have been damned-up by beavers of real life……ahem, see what i mean?

blondel’s post inspired me a little, even if it wasn’t to post something original. i saw a programme on tv the other night, and was impressed with the filming….so i thought i’d post it.

be aware, the content of this documentary is a bit gruesome (although not explicitly so) but it’s interesting stuff.

Youtube

July 11th, 2007 by Blondel

So…  I found this on youtube, however, I’m not 100% sure if it is something that should be on youtube (know what I’m sayin’?)

Anyway, I saw this documentary on the cbc a couple of years ago and was moved by it.  I am a sucker for good photography and a good story.  This film has both.  This is what happens when you tend bar in an NYC dive from 1972 to 1982 and manage to snap a picture of every soul who walks through the door.

Part One.

Part Two.

Summer

July 6th, 2007 by Blondel

Yes. I’m pretty sure we have all forgotten about this site. I haven’t stopped by in weeks.

It’s summer. I have been saddened because I know Oprah and Gayle will not be doing another road trip this summer. DRAG!

I will publicly declare the awesomeness that is Clark and Michael

We are working on something. It’s so fresh and top secret that hardly any of the crooked letters crew even know about it. In the meantime, we’ll be busy swimming and playing catch.

Moving

June 22nd, 2007 by Rob Rochford

I’ve moved house numerous times in my life; I’ve never had that idyllic childhood ‘one house’ arrangement. I know lots of people who have had that, and I see how distraught they get when their parents decide to sell up and ship out to somewhere greener. I’ve never understood it, and i guess i never will.

The point is, I’m moving again. I managed to get me some pile of bricks on the other side of town, somewhere to call my own. It’s a lovely little rundown place that is full of character… and odd smells; I love it!

I went round to the house yesterday with a friend (his house is sponsored by ikea) who constantly asked if I was going to rip things out, change things, basically remove the house of any character whatsoever. The answer was always a firm ‘no’, much to his dismay. What he didn’t understand was that I bought this house because of the imperfections, because of its original condition. In England people have butchered their buildings; all original features torn out, everything smoothed over, laminate flooring on top of perfectly good floorboards, picture rails taken down, ceiling roses removed, cornicing destroyed - its a bloody tragedy.

Then, in the midst of a plethora of pvc double glazed windows and plastic front doors there lay a gem. everything original, all doors (even the internal ones!) windows, tiled kitchen, etc etc. They are all original. They are also in not the best condition, but for me that makes it all the better!

This little entry was meant to be about the nostalgia involved when packing but its morphed into something else, maybe I’ll cover that at a later time. either way, I’m going to document this move with some piccies and maybe I’ll stick some up here at some point. feel free to add your own thoughts about what I’ve said here.

overheard

June 15th, 2007 by Blondel

Easily one of the most amusing sites on the internets is Overheard in the Office.  The office I work out of most days is pretty empty.  If I overhear anything, it is most likely myself…   talking to myself.  The small coffee place down the street, however, that’s a different story, there are always characters milling about down there.  As such, I overhear some great snippets of conversation.  Like today.

Woman:  Hey hon…   how are you feeling?

Man:  Not good.

Woman:  Are you still sick?

Man:  Yeah, and my head hurts because my framed poster of TUPAC, that hangs over my bed, fell off the wall this morning and hit me in the face.

Awesome.
